It was a bad day for the Gosnells Hawks Football club last week with all teams being defeated apart from the women’s team who followed up from a comprehensive defeat last week to record a 13 point victory over University. Final scores were Gosnells 3.3 (21) University 1.2 (8). Best were Michelle Watson, Courtney Venning and Louise Knitter.
The league team struggled against Bullcreek Leeming who appear the team to beat for premiership honours at this early stage of the season. The Hawks had opportunities but was not able to put goals on the scoreboard. Final scores were Bullcreek Leeming 9.15 (69) Gosnells 5.3 (33). Best for the hawks were Alex Taylor, Josh Hall, Lochlin Luckens and Eric Mitchell.
The reserve team had eight players missing from the previous game and found it hard going against a classy opposition. Final scores Bullcreek Leeming 10.11 (71) Gosnells 2.2 (14). Dennis Luffman, Kevin Seelander and Harrison Tomas played well for Gosnells.
The colts also found if difficult against superior opposition and went down by 60 points but are showing improvement. Coach James Gliddon has an inexperienced group of young players competing against older players and they will improve with competition. Final scores Bullcreek Leeming 11.11 (77) Gosnells 2.5 (17).
The third team had played well but found Willetton superior on the day. Final scores were Willetton 9.9 (63) Gosnells 6.10 (46). Best for the hawks were Richard Marsden, Michael Cohen, Daniel Wise and Jakob Woodhouse.
This Saturday is a first for the club with all five teams playing at home. Members and supporters are encouraged to get to Gosnells Oval to enjoy an afternoon and evening of Australian Rules Football. Entry to all games is free.
The colts game starts at 11.25 am, reserves at 1.20 pm, league at 3.15 pm, thirds at 5.30 pm and the women’s hawks team under lights at 7.30 pm.
