The Gosnells Hawks Football Club has one team remaining in the WAAFL C1 Division Finals after the league and thirds were eliminated last Saturday. The reserve team advanced to the Preliminary Final with a victory over Bassendean.
Willetton took control in the first quarter of the league game scoring early goals before the Gosnells players responded and went in at half time only 3 goals down. Willetton took complete control in the third quarter booting six goals and sealed the victory. The Hawks fought back in the last quarter holding Willetton goalless but the game was out of reach. Final scores were Willetton 13.13 (91) Gosnells 9.7 (61). Best for the Hawks were Jayden Woods and Josh Hall. For the second consecutive year Jayden won the association Fairest & Best Award.
The reserve team has found form at the right time with a comprehensive victory in the first semi final and move to the third week of finals. It would appear the main problem facing coach Steve Davis will be selection of his team with several additional players available. Final scores were Gosnells 14.4 (88) Bassendean 6.3 (39).
The thirds were unlucky not to advance to Preliminary Final by going down by 3 points to ECU in an exciting game. The Hawks were in front all day but couldn’t hold on in an exciting finish. Sam and the boys should be happy with the result as this team went winless last year.
This Saturday the reserve team plays Ballajura at Jubilee Reserve, Bassendean at 12.35 pm on the way to the Grand Final..
Good luck to Plugger and his team.
