The Gosnells Hawks Football Club’s league and reserves teams both recorded victories last
weekend and consolidated their positions in the top five of the premiership ladder. The
league game was close all day with the Hawks holding a 16 point lead in the last quarter
only to find Melville rally and to get within 2 points at the final siren. Melville had chances in
the final few minutes to goal but Gosnells held on much to the delight of the large crowd in
attendance. Inaccurate kicking at goal was a problem for both teams and they appear evenly
matched if they meet again in a final round fixture. Final scores Gosnells 8.17 (65) Melville
8.15 (63). Michael Sewell was strong in defence with Jye Clement, Drew Robinson and
Mitchell Withers were in the better players.
The reserves continue to play well and hold fourth position on the ladder but are only one
victory off top spot. Final scores Gosnells 13.10 (88) Melville 8.7 (55). Best for the Hawks
were Dmayne Brown, Brayden Watkins, Nathan Hansen and Tere Teio-Yarran.
The thirds tried hard but Bassendean kicked away in the last quarter to win by 20 points.
Final scores Bassendean 14.8 (92) Gosnells 11.6 (72). Best for Gosnells were Michael Vidich,
Ancliff Enrosa, Winston Raimundo and Delray Jones.
The women team lost to Forrestdale in a low scoring match. Final scores Forrestdale 3.2 (20)
Gosnells 1.4 (10). Maddison Briggs, Tori Hogan , Sherrida Ziedas and Ashleigh Rickard were
best players.
The final scores in the colts were Melville 13.7 (85) Gosnells 6.10 (46).
This week the league, reserves and colts play Thornlie at Thornlie. The thirds play ECU at
Windemere Park at 2.30 pm and the women play Cockburn Lakes at Anning Park at 4.45 pm.
