The West Australian Amateur Football League home and away fixtures completed last week with the Gosnells Hawks Football club qualifying three teams to compete in the finals which start this Saturday. C1 Division league and reserves teams together with the E3 team were the successful teams.
The league team had a comfortable victory over Bullcreek Leeming last week to consolidate fourth spot and secure a home final. The competition is extremely even and it would not surprise to see any of the finalists make it to the grand final. Final scores were Gosnells 15.13 (103) Bullcreek Lemming 9.11 (65). Best players for the Hawks were Marlon Johns, Levi Gallagher, Kade Pescod and Jayden Woods.
The reserves finished second on the ladder and look to have the best chance in several decades to take out the elusive premiership. The last time the reserves were premiers was back in 1965 in the SSMNFL. Coach Steve Davis has several omissions through injury and work commitments but is confident of success this year. Final scores were Gosnells 18.21 (129) Bullcreek Leeming 2.1 (13). Lindsay Williams, Michael Handgraaf, Wayne Ninyette (8 goals) and Dmayne Brown played well for Gosnells..
The thirds completed the season with a 37 point loss to Ballajura last week but coach Sam Parker is confident his team will improve this week. Final scores were Ballajura 12.12 (84) Gosnells 7.5 (47). Best players were Paul White, Michael Vidich, Russell Fuller and Tom Stevens.
The colts finished with only two wins for the season but it is a credit to the lads, Paul, Jeff, Karen, Joanne and support staff that they completed the season in a positive fashion with good numbers and good prospects for season 2019. Final scores were Bullcreek Leeming 10.17 (77) Gosnells 4.3 (27). Best were Jack Phillis, Dalray Jones, LLeyton Bagovits and Byron Hanson.
Gosnells Hawks league team play Carlisle in the Elimination Final at Gosnells Oval at 2.30 pm, the reserves play Quinns District in the Qualifying Final at Burrendah Reserve at 12.35 pm and the thirds play Ellenbrook in the Elimination Final at Arena Joondalup at 12.35 pm.
