With the home and away fixtures now completed the Gosnells Hawks qualified the league, reserves and colts teams for the WAAFL final series. The E Grade team after competing in the Grand Final last year struggled on being promoted to a higher grade and missed the finals this year. The league team is undefeated and will join teams of 1964 and 1989 if able to win the premiership without losing a game. The reserves finished equal second on points but third on percentage and have an undeniable opportunity to win the team’s first flag since 1965. The colts finished in fourth position but have played well against the other teams in the competition and it would be no surprise to see them feature in the finals.
Last week the league comfortably held Nollamara to win by 64 points. Final scores were Gosnells 17.14 (116) Nollamara 7.10 (52). Best for the hawks were Dave O’Brien, Damien Taylor, Jacob Smith and Mitch Barbet.
The reserve team continues to improve and held third position on the ladder with an 18 point victory. The final scores were Gosnells 11.8 (74) Nollamara 8.8 (56). Best for Gosnells were Tim Mavric and Arron Gould.
The thirds again gave their best found the opposition too good on the day. Final scores were Ocean Ridge 15.12 (87) Gosnells 4.6 (30). Callum Burne played well for Gosnells.
The colts continue to play exciting football and were far too good for Belmont Districts. Final scores were Gosnells .12.14 (86) Belmont Districts 4.6 (30). Best for Gosnells were Kade Pescod, Kyle Dougan, Stefan Llittle and Kyle Warne.
Saturday is the first week of the finals. The reserves play Warnbro Swans at Ferndale Park, Lynwood at 12.30 pm in the Qualifying Final and the colts play Belmont Districts at Jubilee Reserve, Bassendean at 10.40 am in the Elimination Final. The league has a week’s rest.
