Gosnells Hawks set for Exciting Year

April 12, 2018

The new season for the Gosnells Hawks Football Club started well with the three senior teams recording comfortable victories but the colt’s team was easily defeated by Melville.

The league and reserve teams performed well l competing in a higher grade after promotion to C1 Division of the West Australian Amateur Football League this season. After an even start the Hawks took control of both games after half time largely due to superior fitness and commitment.  The league side included several colts players from last year in Christian Agostino, Dmayne Brown, Eric Mitchell and Zane Savage and all acquitted themselves well in senior football.  Final scores were Gosnells 13.16 (94) Melville 5.6 (36). Best for the Hawks were Levi Gallagher, Jayden Woods, Caleb Goodhew and Eathan Strahan.

The reserves fielded a new look team under coach Steve Davis with only six players from last year representing the club in this game. The new look team with new enthusiasm including former colts players Alex Goddard, Travis Sansom, Tim Hale, Bryan Lutter and Mitchell Withers was never in trouble and ran out easy victors. Final scores were Gosnells 18.11(119) Melville 5.4 (34). Best were Jordan Hayden, Brayden Watkins and Ryan Davies.

The thirds completed the hat trick with an easy win for new coach Sam Parker. Final scores were Gosnells 16.11 (107) Jandakot 2.2 (14). Dane McBride, Justin Abernathy and Kyle Wood (6 goals) played well for the Hawks.

The colts also fielded a new look team with only ten players from last year’s Grand Final team present. Gosnells was unable to match it with a bigger and classy Melville team but coach Paul Clements is confident his team will show improvement in the next few weeks. Final scores were Melville 16.11 (107) Gosnells 2.3 (15). Trenayne Hodder, Stefan Little, Jack Phillis and Alex Robinson- Major played well.

This week the Hawks play Carlisle at Carlisle Reserve. The thirds have a bye.
